A brief overview of Everything I've Read recently: May 2022- July 2022
May:
1. Book of Night - Holly Black: ⭐⭐.5
I don't fully understand why Black would ever leave her beloved world of fae, but I wish she hadn't. Although eventually, if this series continues (which I think it is), I'm confident she'll find a way to loop it in.
2. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fitzwilliam Darcy fucks. End of story.
3. You've Lost a lot of Blood - Eric Larocca: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
As I talked about in my mid-year freak out tag, I loved this book it was so unique and it's odd for me to find a book that has everything-- an interesting structure, solid plot, and beautiful writing.
June:
Truthfully, I didn't so much as look at a book throughout June.
July:
1.Wretched - Emily McIntire: ⭐⭐⭐
The first book in the series is still by far the best.
2. Notes on an Execution - Danya Kukafka: ⭐⭐⭐.75
I really wish this had had a better twist, it could've been so good.
3. I'm Thinking of Ending Things - Iain Reid: ⭐⭐⭐
I preferred my first Iain Reid novel, Foe, far better. I saw where this was going from like the second page and it didn't give me anything new.
4. The Great Gatsby - Scott F. Fitzgerald: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A re-read that still slaps no matter how many times I read it.
5. Streetcar Named Desire - Tennessee Williams: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a re-read, as well, that also still slaps.
6. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath: ⭐⭐⭐.5
I definitely understand why this book is part of every "sad girl summer" reading list, because like 50% of it is suicidal ideation. Otherwise, it's pretty good. Although I've already forgotten most of it.
In July, I also tried to read 14 books in 14 days, which I wrote about here.
